Congratulations on being selected as a finalist for Babble Royale! In addition to fine tuning and practicing your 8-minute presentation there are a few things that we would like you to submit so that we can present the competition in the style of a professional wrestling program.
1. Pictures of you
We would like three photos, similar to the example below in front of a neutral background, posed in a way that makes it look like you are ready to compete. Take each photo in the same pose, and frame the shot to extend down to your knees. Your images will be combined with the other participants in a “match card” style graphic that will be presented during the NCE and in advance to promote Babble Royale.
And here are a couple of samples of real pro-wrestling “match cards.” We’ll be using Photoshop to make your simple photos look cool.
2. Your nickname
Steve Austin is already a cool name, but do you know what’s cooler? Stone Cold Steve Austin. All great grapplers have a cool nickname – you are no different. Come up with a nickname that will make the audience smile when it is read by the ring announcer.
3. Your entrance music
As you are about to present your talk you will have the opportunity to walk up the aisle to the podium spurred on by your very own entrance music. Pick a favorite son, something that links to your nickname, hometown, or presentation topic. The only caveat is that we have to keep it clean – no swears – this is the American Academy of Pediatrics after all.
4. A promo video
This will be shared in advance of the NCE and played on Friday and Saturday at AAP during the SOEM sessions. Promo videos are brief, entertaining messages from combatants that tell the audience why they should root for them. Brad “Master of the Dad Joke” Sobolewski shares this example to inspire you.
Make sure you include your name and the topic of your presentation. It’s okay to be silly, intense, or inspiring. Just be you!
